First Impressions

"I am a little afraid to go home. I have been mortal, and some part of me is mortal yet. I am no longer like the others, for no unicorn was ever born who could regret, but now I do. I regret."

"Are you malicious by nature? I don't know.
Perhaps only incapable of doing nothing or of
Being by yourself, and, for all your wry faces,
May secretly be anxious and miserable without
A master to need you for the work you need."

"I've sat upon the setting sun
But never never never never
I never wanted water once"

Appearance Ariel generally appears as a slim, androgynous-edging-towards-femme figure of indeterminate age or ethnicity. They can appear as entirely physical if they're in a situation where they need to pass as mortal, but otherwise appear slightly translucent around the edges. Their transparency goes up when they're agitated.

Ariel can alter their appearance to appear as anything from a sunbeam to a harpy. They can glamour themself to look like other people if asked to do so, but rarely choose to.

During their servitude to Sycorax and then Prospero, their bond manifested as a wide silver collar that appeared and disappeared around their neck with Ariel and their masters' moods. After their release, the collar stopped appearing, though it may flicker at the edge of vision if Ariel thinks too much about that period of time.
Demeanor & Attitude Ariel is snarky and blunt with most people, unless they've been given a reason to obey or fear them. Then they are meek and deferential. They can be gentle and playful with people they like, though human empathy is hard for them and they still tend to be uncomfortably honest.
Voice Bells tolling underwater. The glitter of sunlight on the ocean. Soft breezes. Crumbling coals. Iambic pentameter.
Magic & Telepathy Ariel is more akin to a mid-level elemental or fey spirit than anything. They don't have a soul the way humans do, which is part of what makes them susceptible to being caught and bound by magic-users. It takes a decent amount of power to summon and bind them against their will -- e.g. Dumbledore and Voldemort could manage it pretty easily, the Marauders could probably do it by accident but not on purpose, and Harry and Ron could never.

Characters attuned to supernatural stuff, or trying to use psychic powers on them, will perceive Ariel as a force of nature: lightning, wind, and flame.

Ariel is not technically a member of any kind of faerie court, but is aware of them. They just don't consider themself beholden to any organization.
